After School with SAL

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Youth Services Unit partnered up with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento. Deputies frequently interact with the students of the Boys and Girls Club and help with homework and different activities throughout the evenings .

Best Buddies builds one-to-one friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities through events on and off campus. The students and families enjoyed interacting with the Deputies before, during, and after the game.

YSU deputies join students as they enjoy a breakfast in their school cafeteria. Deputies speak to students and develop relationships through positive interactions.

Every week, deputies host multiple Girl’s Circle groups which discuss topics such as bullying, self-confidence, and peer pressure and empowers young women to love themselves!

Puppetry class is held every Tuesday at the Boys and Girls Club. Students learn how to make various styles of puppets such as: paper bag, sock, shadow, marionettes, and more! Students will be learning how to put on their own puppet show in the next couple of weeks!

Lunchtime with YSU brings deputies onto elementary and middle school campuses during lunchtime to interact and mentor students through recreational and sports programs. This program allows deputies to interact with 500-1000 students per event. Our presence on campuses has allowed us to build positive mentoring relationships with students.

Every Thursday at the Boys and Girls Club, YSU deputies host a cooking club. Students learn about cross contamination, kitchen safety, and how to make their own meals!

Youth Leadership Academy

SAL's Youth Leadership Academy is offered as an elective course in efforts to expose students to different aspects of civic leadership, law enforcement, and introduce them to different professional careers. The class is taught by YSU deputies, SSO deputies, and various professional guest speakers. YSU deputies facilitate the program and encourage youth to own their future by making good choices today!.
